Keep it simple

The other day after having studied for Sunday’s sermon much of the day I was beginning to get a bit fuzzy. I was struggling to find a passage of scripture I knew was there - somewhere. Even my computer Bible was of no use. I had the thought of the passage in mind but I couldn’t think of the right words to use to refine my search.

Perspective is everything

A few days ago Kevin Michael was in the passenger seat as we pulled into a parking lot and found a spot beside a bright yellow pickup truck that had been lifted a few inches and had given the oversized tire treatment. In unison we spoke. He said “awesome truck!” I said “ugly truck.” Then we looked at each other in amazement and had a good laugh.

Out of place

Good Monday evening friends. I know you’re all trying to complete your list of important Christmas tasks so I’ll do my part and keep this short.

Last week I revealed some of my absent mindedness to you. Today I heard about a couple of women who were running errands together when one of them found herself a bit out of place. Hearing this made me feel much better about my absent mindedness.

Evidently the woman was dropped off in front of the post office to run inside while her friend drove around the block to return and park near the front door when there was a space available. As she exited the post office the woman quickly crossed the street carefully watching her steps because it was snowing and slippery. She hopped in the car and as the driver pulled away from the curb the passenger realized the gentleman driving the car was not her girlfriend and the driver soon realized the woman in the passenger seat was not his wife.

I can’t think of anything that better illustrates the hustled distraction we often find ourselves in as Christmas approaches. Slow down, even schedule some quite moments during the next couple of weeks if you must, but slow down, lift up your eyes and enjoy the beauty of Christmas. Reflect on the precious gift of the Christ child born in Bethlehem.

Absent Minded

Being able to spend time with my children is one of the many things I enjoy about being a pastor. Since we home school the children I usually try to take one of them with me if I’m going to make a visit and the situation permits. They often have their schoolwork done by the time I’m ready to go visit.

Work is fun

As I write this it’s snowing outside. No surprise for northern Michigan. Early and frequent snow is one of the things our family enjoys about living in the North Country. Though you may think otherwise, it doesn’t always snow here. When it’s not snowing you might find us enjoying Higgins Lake or raking leaves. Sounds like fun doesn’t it?
