Beware of snowmobile traps

Our family has been enjoying all the snow we get here in northern Michigan. We’re supposed to get another 3 to 6 inches of snow tonight and another 7 to 10 inches tomorrow. We live in a wonderful home beside the church and the children have a blast playing on huge snow banks created by the snowplow that clears the church parking lot. The snow banks have been at least six feet high in some places and stretch the length of the back of the parking lot. The children have spent hours digging trenches through the snow banks to use as a hideout.

Last week we talked about the importance of being content with what we have. Today we’re going to continue this thought as we see the danger with a desire to be rich.

It's easy to think that if only we had a little more money it would solve all sorts of problems. As we will see in our study today, longing to be rich and loving money can instead bring us a great deal of grief.

A man became envious of his friends because they had larger and
more luxurious homes. So he listed his house with a real estate
firm, planning to sell it and to purchase a more impressive home.
Shortly afterward, as he was reading the classified section of the
newspaper, he saw an ad for a house that seemed just right. He
promptly called the Realtor and said, “A house described in
today’s paper is exactly what I’m looking for. I would
like to go through it as soon as possible!” The agent asked
him several questions about it and then replied, “But sir,
that’s your house you’re describing.” (Source

Have you ever gone out a bought something you really wanted and
maybe you really couldn’t afford it? I mean you had yourself
convinced that you really needed this thing. So you go out and buy
this thing. And a strange thing happens a week or two later. You
find you are hardly using it. Or soon afterwards you find you have
regrets about buying this thing.

YES it’s COLD!

Seems we only talk about the weather lately. I wonder why. Yes it was -7 fahrenheit this morning. Can you say C-C-C-COLD?

Mail call

Our twelve year old son, Kevin (I call him little Kevin), brought back this nice shot after retrieving the mail. We’re supposed to have a total of eight additional inches of the white stuff before it stops this evening. Good thing we like snow.

Prepare Yourself

Good afternoon friends. It’s another beautiful Monday in northern Michigan. The snow fell almost all day yesterday and added a wonderful blanket of white to what we were already enjoying. I’ve added a snowy picture to the website if you’d like to see what it looked like this morning.

Fresh white blanket

We enjoyed seeing this new layer of snow fall all day
yesterday - about four or five inches.

J. Oswald Sanders said -

[The devil's] overall strategy is to supersede and overthrow the kingdom of God. It is a strategy of destruction. If he was too clever for man in his perfection in Eden, he has a much greater advantage over man in his fallen state.

It has been said that he plans to destroy human government through anarchy. Any student of history can trace this stratagem of the devil, the pervading activity of a malign power, poisoning the stream of human history. He is the mastermind behind the present world system with its lust for power and its political and economic intrigue.

Think I could stop them?

Today’s weather here in the north country is beautiful and sunny and the ground is snow covered. The older boys are starting to feel better after about ten days of colds, fevers and ear infections. You can see below the weather at about 9:30 AM. Do you think this stopped them from going outside? Nope!

How to take your spiritual temperature

It’s a beautiful Monday in northern Michigan. As I write I have a wonderful view of the snow covered back yard. We awoke to a fresh coat of fine powder on top of the snow that has already fallen. It’s been snowing a bit more today and now the snow continues to gently drift downward. It would be a wonderful day to go outdoors with the children to play in the snow but no one in our household has been outside for fun in several days.

Has anybody here ever wished they could have a job as an NFL football player? Don’t you think being an NFL football player would be a tough job? Think about the job of a lineman - those guys up front that give and take a beating on every play. You would think that it would be difficult to have a good attitude as a lineman in the NFL, what with all the pounding that they give and take during a normal game. But, former Buffalo Bills’ offensive lineman Glenn Parker speculated as to why NFL linemen are generally cheerful when he said: “There are not a lot of well-paying jobs for 300-pounders. We found one, and we’re happy about it.”
