What about vision casting for the church?

What about vision casting for the church

Bob McCabe at Theologically Driven, the blog at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, writes about the frequent misuse of Proverbs 29:18 which has often become the call for vision casting among many pastors and the churches they lead.

Proverbs 29:18 (ESV)
Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint,
but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Bob argues that this is a misinterpretation saying,

Just as there was a direct correlation in the Old Testament between Israel’s moral condition and their knowing and submitting to God’s special revelation, so there is a direct correlation between our moral state and our knowing and submitting to God’s special revelation, the Bible.

More than anything the church needs a pastor to preach the Word of God and people who will put it to work in their lives. And Jesus says, “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18).
